The Back Story: I wrote this song as an Easter reflection for my kids.  We live in the prairie lands of Missouri, and winter's are sometimes surprisingly harsh and long.  (Surprising since we moved here from NY state and thought it would be milder!)  At any rate, when we see the world buffeted by all that windy, freezing snow and ice, it's hard to imagine that anything can survive it.  Death seems complete and triumphant.  What keeps us from despairing is our faith in the spring.  The same is true for us when encountering the Easter mystery.  Death by crucifixion, three days in the tomb - it seems absolute.  But it's only an ending which leads to a new beginning - if we have the faith to see it!

Chorus:
It takes faith to see and faith to know,
Faith to give us room to grow,
And to know with God we never should forget -
What you see isn't always what you get!
What you see isn't always what you get.

Verse 1
In the winter cold covered up with snow,
When you  can't see a speck of green,
Buried deep and warm, held safe from harm,
Lies the waiting flower seed.

(Chorus)

Verse 2
In the dark of night, we can't see the light,
And we think we're at the end,
But God shows God's hand and we understand -
That's when God begins again!

Verse 3
So don't be fooled by the world's old rule,
"Believe just what you see."
Faith will give us sight so we know what's right,
And faith will make us free.

(Chorus)
